True Fire by Gary Meehan

This starts off with a girl sixteen years old, pregnant. Sneaking out of her house where she lives with her grandfather and twin sister Gwyneth. Parents long dead. Her name is Megan and her plan is to meet the father of her baby Wade, who ran off when she told him she was with child. (JERK.) She met Wade because her sister was with hid brother (Holt) and coerced her into being with him. While she's with him near the corn fields basically arguing they hear loud cries (must be fighting at a tavern) Alas no It is the whole village screaming. Wade makes her hide and goes to see what's happening (although I'm pretty certain he hide her on purpose because he knew something and was scared for her) A man in black armour cuts his head clean off with an axe. *ARGH WTF*
She decides she must save her family and runs as fast as she can to find them men already there. They kill her grandfather and Holt then go inside. She waits and waits and no Gwyneth appears so she thinks they have already killed her. They all live in a world where the priests are the rulers and the witches are the enemy (long destroyed.) After this happens a lot more happens.... she meets a lady called Eleanor (Countess, Baroness) who is killer with a blade that helps her on her quest to get help from the priests after she finds her sister was took prisoner. She end up sort of a most wanted by the witches (some of which are in dressed as priests). There are plenty of enemies along her way and another friend Damon who they meet buried to his neck in the sand (witches has left him like this.) She gets deceived, she gets attacked and she finds out a whole lot of lies being told. Her sister is pregnant to she is told and that they are part of the witches prophecy (twin sisters aged 16 will both be pregnant at the same time and their babies will be a reincarnation of two great witches.) Megan becomes some bad-ass bitch though out and I thought it was AMAZING! You realise all her life she's second best in a way (her sister always acted older, she was prettier, she was this and that.) But I tell you Megan is more than is needed for the heroine of this book. I did not expect what came in this book and I don't think you will until it's upon you. It is set long before now most certainly. So if you like jolly good sword fights, dirty inns, conspiracies and this kind of witchy era then this is the book for you.
